Before you get your puppy or dog
I will help you prepare for your new puppy or dog before you bring them home. This includes tips on what type of dog would fit your lifestyle, setting up your home, what supplies you should get, lifestyle/scheduling considerations, and how to get through those first few challenging - but ultimately rewarding days!
Puppy Training
- Teaching your puppy to be confident and happy through the use of bonding exercises and games - right from the time you bring them home!
- Help and support with: house training; puppy nipping/biting; crate training; teaching basic obedience skills such as sit, down and stay
- Teaching your dog to come when you call every time, right from the start
- Teaching your puppy to walk on a loose leash, without pulling
- Helping to break down the barrier between training inside your home and outside, through the use of gentle distractions when your puppy is ready
- Making sure your puppy gets enough mental exercise as well as physical exercise. Mental stimulation is very important for puppies, and can be as effective as physical exercise when it comes to having a satisfied, pleasantly-tired-out puppy.
Training for Older Puppies, Teenagers and Adult Dogs
Whether you have a newly-adopted rescue, a rehomed dog from a breeder, or simply a more mature pup or adult dog that could use some training, I can help! Together, we will discuss any issues that are occurring in order to fully understand them, then work toward improving these in a positive and constructive way. Here's a sampling of some things I can help you with:
- Teaching your dog to walk on a loose-leash, without pulling
- Working with a variety of distractions, including other dogs, bikes, skateboards, squirrels....
- Help with dogs that are unsure in certain situations, or are experiencing any anxiety, fearfulness or timidity. Teaching your dog to adjust to being left alone
- Support with dogs that get excited very easily, or are highly distractible
- Help with problems such as barking, pulling and lunging at other dogs or people
- Teaching dogs to relax and offer calmness in a variety of circumstances
